Leaf Blowers and Air Duct Cleaning

There are quite a few companies that use leaf blowers in the air duct cleaning industry. The reason the machines are called leaf blowers is they were designed for blowing leafs, not to clean air ducts. When selecting an air duct cleaner don't get too caught up in price because you could get a trained professional, who would give you a good job or you could get a guy that pulls up in his personal vehicle and uses a leaf blower to clean your air ducts.

The biggest problem I have with a leaf blower is it doesn't have the power to move dirt very far inside the air duct system. Meaning if I remove a vent and direct air from a leaf blower into the vent the dirt moves from where I can see it to where I can't see it. The problem that this can create is I have loosened dirt from the vent area but not moved it to the collection bag.

So what happens to the loosened dirt? Any dirt that has been loosened and not removed now can be circulated throughout the home by the blower motor on the furnace. Meaning that your furnace will push the dirt out of the furnace and spread it through out your home. Remember you just paid some one to help make your home healthier and instead of getting that they made your home less healthy.

I have been in the cleaning industry for over 30 years and it never ceases to amaze me what people will use to perform different cleaning jobs. The kinds of equipment vary from company to company but the unreputable companies can really leave you scratching your head. What kind of company would do this? Were they trained to do this or did they think up this on their own?

Some companies are there to make money by doing cleaning. Some companies do cleaning and make money. The last two sentences sound the same but they are very different. If making money comes first and quality second there are always going to be short cuts. Who pays for the short cuts? Their customers do. The company that puts quality cleaning first before the money still makes money and usually has longevity.

Choosing a company with a good reputation should be your priority. We all work hard for our money and throwing our money away is not an option so do your research and choose well. Remember a leaf blower is a great toll to move leaves, not to clean air ducts.
