Is 49 Dollars Realistic to Get My Air Ducts Cleaned?

What most quality companies do to give you a quality job is that they first send out an estimator to give your system an in home inspection. This person will drive out to your home and look over the system. The next step is to send out a two man crew to clean the system. These two men will spend 2 to 4 hours between setting up, cleaning, and breaking down and packing up their equipment. Larger jobs can take a whole day.

Paying 2 men, gas to drive out, gas to clean the job, materials, insurance on vehicles, insurance for liability, workers compensation insurance in case of injury. Throw in the cost of the estimator, his gas and insurance, and don't forget the cost of the person answering the phone when you first called to inquire about air duct cleaning. The phone was housed in a building so there are taxes, rent, heat or air conditioning, electric, water, and insurance on this building. The more things I list, the more things pop into may head that I didn't list.

After looking over the list does this sound like a job that could be accomplished for $49.95, $69.95, or even $89.95? No it does not. Unfortunately you can't even afford to send a 2 man crew to ring the door bell and run away for $49.95. You can't get quality work for this price period and these types of companies are going to raise the price through the roof with "additional services". This is how a company makes money.

A quality company gives you up front pricing. No hidden fees. When a company comes out for $49.95 and adds on $100.00, $200.00, or even $500.00 to a $1000.00 it's called bait and switch. Do you really want a company to come out to your house with an advertised price of $49.95 and then charge you 10 to 20 times that for a cleaning job? How much confidence do you have that after paying that price you will be getting a quality job?

Unfortunately you get what you pay for in the air duct cleaning industry. You really need to think before you hire a company. Ask the company to come out to give you a free in home inspection before they come to clean to get an idea of who you are hiring. Ask friends and neighbors for a recommendation.

If you go with the cheap company you might find you would have been better to go to the bank and get 50 one dollar bills and put them into the fire place because at least you could have gotten some heat to warm your hands and been less of a waste that the money you spent with an Uninformed, Uneducated, Or Downright Unscrupulous Service Companies.
